WASH YOUR VEHICLE
One of the easiest ways to maintain your vehicle this winter is to wash your vehicle on a regular basis. Doing this will prevent the road salt from harming your vehicle’s exterior. Consider having your vehicle’s undercarriage cleaned as well!
CHECK YOUR FLUID LEVELS
Another simple, but important way to maintain your vehicle during the winter months is by checking your vehicle’s fluid levels often. We recommend that your oil, coolant, and windshield wiper fluids are all at or above the recommended levels.
MONITOR YOUR TIRE PRESSURE
It is also important for drivers to make sure their tire pressure is at the manufacturer’s recommended level. Overinflated or underinflated tires are more likely to slip in icy road conditions. If your vehicle does not have a TPMS, then you should make sure to check your tire pressure often.
WARM UP YOUR VEHICLE
When the temperature drops below zero, drivers should consider warming their cars up before driving. This allows your vehicle to heat up the engine oil, which performs much more efficiently when warmed up rather than at cool temperatures.
CHARGE YOUR BATTERY
Your vehicle’s battery is also very vulnerable in cold weather. As a result, drivers should be making sure their vehicle’s battery is fully charged before parking their vehicle in the cold weather for an extended period of time.
KEEP FUEL TANK HALF-FULL
Fuel, like oil, does not perform as well in the cold weather. To avoid your gas freezing up inside your fuel tank, we recommend keeping your tank above half-full at all times. The less fuel present, the more likely it is to freeze.
